“The identity is in the lines.”

Marianne Turck is a visual artist who does not limit herself to a single medium. Depending on the idea, she chooses the best medium to visualize her thoughts and convey them to the audience. For that reason, she works with a wide range of media, always with the eye of a visual artist, including photography, video, performance, drawing, and digital work.

The common thread in her practice is the exploration of line and the movement of form. She is fascinated by the human being in everyday reality, translating her observations of ordinary activities into subtle visual expressions. The result is rarely loud or overwhelming, but rather quiet, and precisely for that reason deeply present.

Marianne is intrigued by the different ways in which people meet each other and how they manifest through body language in time and space. Her work is about shape and rhythm in lines, which she discovers everywhere: in the human body as well as in the surrounding environment. The identity is in the lines. Experimental contemporary dance is another vital source of inspiration. Content and form touch every dimension: movement, music, word, stage, video, song. In every element, the choreographer searches for the right lines of movement, the right rhythm to shape a choreography. Encounters, transparency and repetition, concepts familiar in the dance world, regularly influence her work.

Her visual works are very often built in layers: nothing emerges at once; each piece slowly takes shape, layer upon layer, like the rings of a tree. In the same way, people grow step by step, layer by layer, gradually unfolding and shaping their identity.

Thus, the notion of time emerges as a vital tool. Like a pencil, a paintbrush, a camera, a drill or a laser cutter, time itself is a medium. When an idea has time to unfold, the right moment comes to make it visible.
